TomoTherapy is now available in India as an innovative and precise radiation therapy. This treatment method combines Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Computed Tomography (CT) scanning technology (IGRT- Image Guided Radiotherapy) into a single machine. With TomoTherapy® H™, powerful radiation beams can be modulated to treat tumours with precision. Before each treatment, built-in CT scanning confirms the shape and position of the tumour, reducing radiation exposure to healthy tissues and organs and minimising side effects.
TomoTherapy is particularly effective in treating tumours in hard-to-reach sites, advanced stage tumours (locally and metastatic), and recurrent tumours that were previously treated with other radiotherapy techniques. The scanning technology provides a 3D image of the treatment area on each treatment day, allowing the radiation beams to be targeted according to the size, shape, and location of the tumour(s) on that specific day. This means there is no chance of missing the target.
During treatment, the intensity and direction of the radiation beams can be adjusted, and the revolutionary “slice therapy” approach treats tumours layer by layer. This minimises the radiation that reaches healthy tissues and organs, reducing side effects. TomoTherapy may also be suitable for re-irradiation of cancer patients who have reached their maximum tolerance dose of other forms of radiation
Benefits of TomoTherapy
